Komorebi Parfums is an independent fragrance house based in the Chicago area, founded by perfumer Brandon Woods.
We believe fragrance should be more than something you wear. It should remind you of somewhere you've been, someone you've known, or a moment you wish you could experience again.
The name Komorebi comes from a Japanese word describing sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees. It's a word for something familiar, beautiful, and difficult to capture in a single description.
That idea is at the heart of everything we create.
Our fragrances draw inspiration from the world around us. The stillness of a forest in the Pacific Northwest. The electric energy of a summer night. The quiet comfort of a moment to yourself.
These aren't simply combinations of notes. They're attempts to translate places, feelings, and experiences into something you can carry with you.
Independent by Design
Komorebi wasn't built to follow a formula for what a fragrance brand should be.
Every fragrance begins with an idea, and every composition is developed in-house. We work directly with individual raw materials, building, testing, adjusting, and sometimes starting over until the fragrance tells the story we intended.
We don't create replicas of popular fragrances. We don't design our releases around what's trending.
We create what we believe deserves to exist.
Working in small batches gives us the freedom to experiment, refine our work, and make decisions based on the fragrance itself rather than a production schedule.
Meet the Perfumer
Brandon Woods | Founder & Perfumer
I've always been fascinated by the way we connect to a place or a memory. As a photographer I traveled the world with my camera, attempting to capture those moments. In my travels I realized that the most authentic way to capture those moments is through scent.
A particular smell can bring back an entire place, a specific moment, or a feeling you haven't thought about in years.
That realization became something more. I wanted to understand how fragrances were built, why certain materials worked together, and whether I could create something that captured the experiences I carried with me.
What began as curiosity became a pursuit of perfumery.
I approach each fragrance as both a creative and technical challenge. Some ideas come together quickly. Others take dozens of iterations before they feel right. I enjoy the creative and scientific process as much as I enjoy the finished result.
My Philosophy
Originality over imitation. Every Komorebi fragrance is an original composition, developed with its own identity and purpose.
Craft over shortcuts. I select raw materials deliberately, refine the formulas through testing, and produce the fragrances in small batches.
Experience over expectation. I believe the best fragrances aren't necessarily the ones that follow familiar rules. They're the ones that make you feel something.
